Cocoa Beach Air Show and Cape Canaveral

Saturday 30th October - Air Force Week

Spent all day on Cocoa Beach watching an amazing Air Show (again all free)!   The weather was perfect.  Saw the F16 formation flyover and the F18 Hornet demo thunder across the sky, I hate to think how many decibels went through our poor ears.

The Thunderbirds gave us an incredible synchronised show and the big military helicopters put on a rescue display over the ocean.

Allen suffered a stiff neck for a couple of days afterwards but his photographs are brilliant.

( There is only one pain in my neck and thats the Author!! )

Camped at Carver's Cove RV Park where the campers gather every night to gaze at the sunset from the jetty.  Stunning.

Jetty ParkCape Canaveral

The whole place was buzzing with the Space Shuttle Launch.  Will it (or won’t it) take off on Monday?  We booked into Jetty Park Camp because it was the closest and will have the best view.  Every day more and more people are arriving to get a glimpse of this great event.

While waiting for the latest Launch update Allen went fishing from the Pier.  Three huge liners floated through the causeway.   Carnival SensationFreedom of the Seas and Disney Wonder

Monday 1st November  (Shuttle Launch postponed to Tuesday)
After all the “blokey” things like fishing, speedway tracks, the space centre and the air show, I finally got some much needed retail therapy.  Three hours at Macy’s really hit the spot.  ( I don't photograph shops )

Allen took me to lunch and we went to a Caribbean place and ate goat curry.  I loved it.  Then we went to the movies and saw Matt Damon in Hereafter.  I can’t remember the last time we had such a ‘normal’ day.  Thanks Al….now back to the fishing.

Tuesday 2nd  (Shuttle Launch postponed to Wednesday)
Allen caught a Stingray and guess what….it stung him!!!!   Aaarrrhh panic.  Where’s the First Aid box?   I’m such a bad nurse.   In the end Allen bandaged his own thumb while I sat down.

Wednesday 3rd (Shuttle Launch postponed to Thursday)
Even if we miss the Launch we are in heaven.  We are booked into Jetty Park until next Monday so hopefully the Shuttle will take off while we are here. Allen went fishing and snorkeling.  Saw a beautiful mother and baby crane and some scruffy pelicans.

Patience is a virtue.....the Launch has been postponed again!!  Jetty Park has become the nearest thing to home as we've been here so long.  We know the campground like the back of our hand and the people in the Fishing Tackle shop know Allen by name.

There was always plenty to do and lots to see. Suddenly there was heaps more Security around as a Trident Nuclear submarine came past on it's way out to sea.

Sadly we didn't see the Shuttle Launch but we had a great time anyway.
